This service has been developed for use by adults only. Children requiring weight management treatments should be under supervision of their regular doctor.
Who can use this service?
The service is available to adults from 18 to 65 years of age who are seeking medical treatment in addition to other weight control measures such as diet and exercise. Overseas purchasers may be restricted by legislation in their own country.
How the service works
The following information is provided for you to determine whether you are suitable for weight management treatment. Should you consider that this is the case you will then be given options for treatment, this includes links to proprietary products marketed for the treatment of weight control and the opportunity to participate in an online consultation to see whether the online GP considers medication is appropriate.
If the online GP decides medication is appropriate our service will allow you to purchase a 3 month course which you may purchase in one go or one pack per month up to 3 packs. You will then require anthoer consulation if you wish to continue.
What is weight management?
Weight management is the term given to using several means to control obesity. It includes exercise, dietry monitoring and may include the use of medication to suppress the appetite or to reduce the amount of fats absorbed from the gastro intestinal tract. Medication provided here is for those who have uncomplicated weight management issues, that is people who do not have an underlying condition which contributes to weight gain. such as diabetes or diseases which may be contra-indicated with weight management medication.
To determine whether you are overweight a BMI (Body Mass Index ) figure is used. This is a general figure and should not be used as definitive evidence of obesity, however, it does generally give a good indication.
